Ford Expedition Maintenance Schedule

The “Sidney Severe” Guide

Owning a 2026 Ford Expedition in Sidney means asking it to do everything. One day it’s idling in the pick-up line at Sidney Middle School; the next, it’s towing a 7,000-lb camper to Indian Lake.

While the manual lists a “Normal” schedule, most Shelby County drivers fall into the “Severe Duty category due to short trips, towing, and cold winters. Following the factory-recommended intervals is the only way to keep your 3.5L EcoBoost® engine running strong past 150,000 miles.

At Chesrown Ford, we don’t guess. We follow the specs. Here is your definitive guide to maintaining the family hauler.

The Critical Numbers: Oil & Fluids

The heart of your Expedition is the twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost® engine. It is a high-performance machine that requires precise lubrication to protect the turbos.

Oil Capacity & Viscosity Chart

Engine Oil Viscosity Capacity (w/ Filter) Filter Part #
3.5L EcoBoost® V6 SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend 6.0 Quarts Motorcraft FL-500-S
3.5L H.O. EcoBoost® SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend 6.0 Quarts Motorcraft FL-500-S

Warning: Do not use 5W-20. The twin-turbo engine runs hot and needs the thicker 5W-30 film strength to protect the bearings under load.

The Service Timeline

Every 5,000 – 7,500 Miles (The “Works”)

  • Oil Change: Turbos spin at up to 200,000 RPM. Old, dirty oil can coke (harden) in the oil lines, starving the turbos. Change it religiously.
  • Tire Rotation: The Expedition is heavy. Regular rotation prevents the front tires from wearing out the outer edges prematurely.
  • Brake Inspection: We check pad thickness. The Expedition has massive brakes, but towing heavy loads wears them down faster.

Every 20,000 Miles

  • Cabin Air Filter: Located behind the glovebox. If you drive on gravel roads near Anna or Botkins, check this every 15,000 miles. A clogged filter restricts A/C airflow.

Every 30,000 Miles

  • Engine Air Filter: A dirty filter chokes your engine, killing fuel economy and towing power.
  • Coolant Test: We check the freeze point to ensure the engine block is protected during those sub-zero Ohio nights.

Every 60,000 Miles (Critical for Towing)

  • Transmission Fluid: The 10-speed automatic (10R80) is complex. If you tow often, we recommend a fluid exchange here to keep shifts smooth.
  • Spark Plugs: Turbo engines eat plugs. While the manual says 100k, we often see performance dips around 60k–80k. Changing them early restores lost MPGs.
  • Rear Differential Fluid: Essential if you use your 4WD system or tow heavy boats.

100,000 Miles

  • Coolant Flush: Complete exchange of the yellow antifreeze.
  • Accessory Drive Belts: Inspect the serpentine belt for cracks.
  • Transfer Case Fluid: Replace the fluid in the 4WD transfer case.

Why Service at Chesrown Ford?

You can get an oil change anywhere, but servicing your Expedition at Chesrown Ford in Sidney offers specific advantages:

  1. Factory-Trained Techs: We know the EcoBoost engine inside and out. We know to check for “cam phaser” rattles and turbo wastegate issues that quick-lube shops might miss.
  2. Motorcraft® Parts: We use the FL-500-S filter, which has a silicone anti-drain back valve. Cheap filters use rubber valves that fail, leading to “dry starts” that damage your engine.
  3. Convenience: Use our Shuttle Service to get back to work or home while we service your SUV.

Is your “Oil Life” monitor under 20%? Don’t wait.
