Your Questions Answered

Buying a truck is complicated. You have six engine options, three cab sizes, and enough tech to run a small business. In Sidney, our customers ask us everything from “Will it pull my camper?” to “Can I run my table saw off the tailgate?”

At Chesrown Ford, we believe in straight answers. Here is the definitive FAQ guide for the 2026 Ford F-150, ensuring you have the right specs before you sign the paperwork.

Performance & Towing

What is the maximum towing capacity of the 2026 F-150?

The maximum towing capacity is 13,500 pounds.

To achieve this, you must have the 3.5L EcoBoost® V6 engine equipped with the Max Trailer Tow Package and the correct axle ratio (usually 3.55 or 3.73).

Can the F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid tow as much as the standard V6?

Close, but not exactly. The 3.5L PowerBoost® Full Hybrid has a maximum towing capacity of 11,200 pounds. While it is slightly less than the non-hybrid 3.5L (13,500 lbs), it is still sufficient for most travel trailers and boats found at Lake Loramie.

Does the 5.0L V8 still exist for 2026?

Yes. The legendary 5.0L Coyote V8 is available. It produces 400 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. It has a max towing capacity of 12,900 pounds and is a favorite for Sidney drivers who want the sound and simplicity of a naturally aspirated engine.

Does the PowerBoost Hybrid require premium gas?

No. The F-150 PowerBoost runs on Regular 87 Octane fuel. However, for maximum performance, especially when towing heavy loads in summer heat, Ford recommends using 91 Octane or higher to prevent the engine from pulling timing.

Tech & Utility

What is the Pro Access Tailgate?

The Pro Access Tailgate features a 37-inch swing-out door integrated into the center of the tailgate.

  • The Benefit: It allows you to access the bed even when a trailer is hitched. Traditional tailgates hit the trailer jack when lowered; this swing-out door solves that problem.
  • Availability: It is available on Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Tremor trims.

How much power does the Pro Power Onboard provide?

It depends on the engine:

  • 0kW: Available on gas engines (optional). Good for charging tools and laptops.
  • 4kW: Standard on the PowerBoost Hybrid. Good for small appliances.
  • 2kW: Optional on the PowerBoost Hybrid. This can power a welding shop, a framing crew, or backfeed your home during a power outage. It offers four 120V outlets and one 240V outlet.

Does the 2026 F-150 have BlueCruise?

Yes. Ford BlueCruise (Hands-Free Highway Driving) is available on XLT models and above. It works on over 130,000 miles of “Blue Zones” across North America, including major stretches of I-75 through Ohio. Note that it requires a subscription after the initial trial period.

Maintenance & Specs

What type of oil does the 2026 F-150 use?

Most 2026 F-150 engines (2.7L, 3.5L, and PowerBoost) now require SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Blend oil.

  • Important: Previous years of the 5.0L V8 used 5W-20, but Ford has shifted recommendations to 5W-30 for better high-temp protection in recent models. Always check your oil cap to be 100% sure.

How many quarts of oil does the 5.0L V8 hold?

The 5.0L V8 is thirsty. It holds 7.75 quarts of oil. The V6 EcoBoost engines typically hold 6.0 quarts.

When should I change the transmission fluid?

For “Severe Duty” driving (which includes towing, idling, and Ohio winters), we recommend changing the fluid in the 10-Speed Automatic Transmission every 60,000 miles. The factory manual may list 150,000 miles for “normal” driving, but we rarely see “normal” conditions in Shelby County.

Buying Questions

What is the difference between the XLT and Lariat?

The XLT is the “Volume” truck with cloth seats, console shifter, nice tech, but rugged. The Lariat is the entry into “Luxury”, which adds leather-trimmed seats (heated and ventilated), the 12-inch digital cluster as standard, and access to higher-end options like the Head-Up Display.
